This map from the David Rumsey Map Collection is a redesigned reproduction of a vintage map created by the US Coast Survey and is one of the first coast survey charts to use contour lines instead of color. The report for which this map was created was published in 1872 and was the House of Representatives report from the 41st Congress, 2d Session. The map's original price was $1.50.

This artwork is a redesigned reproduction of the town of Brooklyn from G.T. Brown and Co. The town of Brooklyn (1856-1872) was situated in what is now Oakland, east of Lake Merritt. It was named for the ship Brooklyn that brought Mormon settlers to California in 1846 and was established in 1856 by the joining of two settlements, Clinton and San Antonio. Voters approved its annexation to Oakland in 1872.

This reproduction of a vintage map of California from the David Rumsey Map Collection was created by George Franklin Cram and included in Cram's Unrivaled Family Atlas of the World, the first mass produced world atlas. The map was accompanied by a printed agreement giving S.O. Houghton rights to the Southern Pacific Railroad Company under Acts of Congress. In addition to cities and towns, relief is indicated by hachures, and major railroads are distinguished by color.

This is a redesign of a vintage map from the Justus Perthes firm. Unlike other cartographic publishers of the period, the Justus Perthes firm did not transition to lithographic printing techniques and all their maps maintain copper plate engravings that offer a high level of character and depth. In cartographic flourish unique to Perthes, land profiles decorate the bottom of this map.

This artwork is a redesigned reproduction of a vintage map from the David Rumsey Map Collection. Compiled from official maps in the Surveyor's Office, this guide to San Francisco originally sold for $0.25 and features the downtown area filled in solid with buildings and new development pushing outward. Concentric circles were added showing distances from the Ferry Building, and the internal development of Golden Gate Park has been extended all the way to Ocean Beach.

This redesigned reproduction of a vintage woodcut of the Yosemite Valley was taken from The Yosemite Guide-Book: A Description of the Yosemite Valley and the Adjacent Region of the Sierra Nevada, and of the Big Trees of California, an illustrated guide of maps and woodcuts. It was part of the Geological Survey of California conducted by J.D. Whitney in 1869. The original map was sourced from the David Rumsey Map Collection.

The original map is wax engraved and is one of the first maps that Rufus Blanchard produced himself, without other map makers of the time. From the David Rumsey Map Collection, this redesigned reproduction of a vintage map exhibits the salt marsh, tide and submerged lands in and adjacent to the bays of San Francisco and San Pablo, lands originally disposed of by the State of California and later reclaimed. The map was prepared by T.J. Arnold, engineer of the sea wall, in 1874 for the US Commissioners on the San Francisco Harbor.
